May 31, 2010 - St. Catharines: As part of the on-going conversion of the Downtown street system, the City will be implementing two-way traffic on King Street from Carlisle Street to Court Street and St. Paul Street from Court Street to Geneva Street in late June or early July. Over the next few weeks, City and Regional crews and contractors will be installing and adjusting all traffic signs, pavement markings and traffic signals necessary for the conversion.
At this time, drivers should be aware that the intersections of King Street with Court Street and Academy Street will be converted to all-way stop control on Monday, June 7th. The existing traffic signals at these locations will be placed on all-red flash the morning of Monday, May 31st, and will remain flashing until the all-way stop controls are installed. Drivers are reminded to treat the flashing red operation as an all-way stop and should be mindful and respectful of pedestrians at these locations.
As with all changes to traffic control, there will be a period of adjustment while drivers get used to the new operation of these intersections. Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use extra care when travelling in these areas.
Your assistance and co-operation in this regard is appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact:
